Latest poll at 1500 BST puts SKANDIA in 5th place overall 1.55 miles behind new leader Gildas Morvan and only just over one mile behind leading Rookie Marc Emig in second place. This is Sam's best position of the whole race and although it is extremely close on the water, this position reflects Sam's determination to see her first Solitaire du Figaro through to the finish.
The fleet have again split into two groups - the leading group of 21 boats including Sam, Loick Peyron (6th), Michel Desjoyeaux (14th), Alain Gautier (13th) and Armel Le Cleac'h (16th) who are the contenders for the overall title, closer inshore to the French coast. Whilst the second group have gone offshore in search of stronger sea breeze and could yet gain the advantage over the top of the leader board.

It is an incredibly close and tortuous game as the positions change radically at each positions poll. Sam said earlier during the radio vacation: "The whole race has been very, very hard...if you don't put in 100% you lose. I have some sea breeze so the wind is more steady and am just sailing the best I can... There is still a long way to go..."
