BT Team Ellen - Difficult times at the iShares Cup Kiel
The fourth round of the iShares Cup in Kiel over the weekend
produced seen some great racing and drama. Conditions were
difficult for the 10 Extreme - squalls, torrential rain, thunder
and lightning with the wind range from 6 knots to 14 knots and
occasional some strong gusts that caught out British skipper
Mike Golding, who capsized during racing on the first day. After
a nail bitting final race, Oman Sail Masirah scored their third
consecutive victory, followed by teammate Renaissance and the
French boat Groupama 40. It was again a mixed bag of fortunes
for Nick Moloney and the BT Extreme 40 crew, although two wins
in race 6 and 8 showed their capabilities if a good start could
be had. But the team struggled to match the furious pace of the
front runners, despite trying a different rig set up on the
final day as they struggled with the boat speed, and finally
finished 8th at the German event.
