“Wet Feet” take out Cowes Week in the Longtze
Impressive this Cowes Week with its 8000-odd participants who battle it out under the umbrella of an exemplary organisation! Impressive also the Longtze Premier! With 25 knots of solid wind, the “Dragon’s Sons” surged along at nearly 20 knots under spinnaker in the Solent: the first Longtze rounds on the other side of the channel did not go unnoticed… German Eckhard Kaller and his crew snatch a new victory on the Longtze European Tour.

“It’s a really magnificent race! This event is truly impressive in terms of participation and organisation. Everyone who sails and races is there, from the most modern boats to the classic series. It is really great that the Longtze Class was able to participate there this year”, underlines Xavier de Lesquen, president of the Longtze Class.

The tough and technical Solent
… For 7 days the Longtze Premier raced in tough conditions on the coastal courses of the Solent. 25 to 26 knots of wind, a sometimes choppy sea, current, rocks…all the ingredients were there to make these races as tricky and physical as one could wish for! “The sailing conditions were excellent! Very well-balanced courses about 3 to 4 hours long…It was of-course very physical, very technical. It was tight, even if Eckhard Kaller (Wet Feet) was a head above the other competitors.

The Swiss from “Shensu” (Jarmo Wieland) played a very good hand, as well did Matthieu Roynette’s crew (TEAM Stade Francais), newcomers to the circuit: they sailed well, always consistent in their results. At the final leg, they are 3rd...and completely rapt with the circuit and the boat!” comments Pierre Mas.

Of note also the fine performance of Georges Asperti’s crew (Ovik), and the remarkable efforts put in by the British team led by Ben Kay (Longtze Way Behind) who discovered the boat for the first time in tricky weather conditions… Longtze appointment diary fully booked
Amongst the 8000 odd sailors involved in Cowes Week, several of them noticed the performance of the Longtze Premier, especially during their fast and furious laps under spinnaker… “The Longtze goes really fast under spinnaker! You reach 20 knots! And, most importantly, the boat is sound. It doesn’t buckle, surf easily: it was really fantastic!” enthuses the Class president. “We have had lots of enquiries for information on the boat”, notes Pierra Mas. As a result, after the race, in Cowes, at the heart of sailing’s sanctuary, the Longtze Premier was available for testing. Wherever the Longtze passes, sailors’ curiosity is piqued…

Next meet, next stage of the Longtze European Tour and a new first for the Longtze Class. The “Trofeo Gorla”, raced from the 3rd to the 5th September on another mythical stretch of water for light sailing : Lake Garde.
