&xnbsp; &xnbsp; Taking full advantage
With a solid gradient breeze forecast today the intention today at the Caja Mediterráneo Region of Murcia Trophy regatta is to take full advantage and maximise the racing options for both GP42 Series and TP52 Series. &xnbsp; &xnbsp;

The TP52 Series are scheduled to race one windward-leeward race with a start time due to be around 1300hrs. Immediately it finishes the TP52’s will set up for a short 20 miles coastal challenge which will carry the usual 1.5x points coefficient. So it will be an especially challenging day for the TP52 teams.
Kurs vor Cartagena 28.08.
The GP42 Series are programmed to run three back-to-back windward leeward races. Winds are forecast to be the strongest that we have seen so far this week, more reminiscent perhaps of some of last year’s better days. But the breeze will be between NE and E’ly and somewhere between 16 and 22 knots Leaders of the TP52 Series at the regatta are TeamOrigin 1851 (GBR) who stepped eight points clear of second placed Emirates Team New Zealand (NZL) after scoring a 3,2,1 yesterday. The British crew have struggled in the two coastal races so far this season with speed problems in Cascais and equipment problems in Marseille.

The course for the coastal race offers a short windward leeward, what should be a beat for around 5.5 miles across to the east, towards Cabo del Agua where the fleet turns back for a run and reach turning close the coast, west of the entrance to the harbour. Then the finish is right inside the harbour which will be an exciting prospect for spectators and an especially challenging finale for the teams. It is very puffy and gusty already, there is not much room and the line is set right off the Audi MedCup race village. In the GP42 Series it is close with just three points separating the top three boats. Series leaders Madrid Caser-Seguros (ESP) top the table for the Caja Mediterráneo Region of Murcia Trophy regatta so far with Peninsula Petroleum (GBR) putting in a couple of high octane performances yesterday to lie second. But maybe the threat today will come from the Audi MedCup champions Islas Canarias Puerto Calero who have traditionally excelled in the stronger breezes. The action ashore at the Audi MedCup Public Village carries on through the day with a swimming contest at 1730hrs this evening, at 2000hrs a custom motorbike display and in the late evening, at 2200hrs, Moe’s Bar Band play.
