The Artemis Racing shore team has arrived in Cascais to begin building the
base and preparing the AC45 catamaran, which left Valencia by truck on 22
July following an eight day training session in the Spanish port. The first
day of sailing for the team will be 1 August, the final shake down before
racing commences on 6 August.
“We have been working hard to get up to speed in multihulls over the last
six months. In addition to sailing the AC45 and RC44s, we are also cross
training in the X40s and D35. Our end game is 24 months from now, but we are
looking forward to the start of the America's Cup World Series in just over
a week’s time," said Terry Hutchinson, Skipper of Artemis Racing.
With nine AC45s on the starting line in the Bay of Cascais, the first ACWS
promises an exciting week of racing among eight of the world’s best
professional sailing teams. The first America’s Cup World Series will
consist of four events over nine days: the Cascais America’s Cup Open, the
America’s Cup 500 Speed Trial, the America’s Cup Match Racing Championship
and finally the America’s Cup World Series Cascais Championship on 14
August.
Drawing from a squad of twenty experienced sailors, Artemis Racing will
continue to rotate the crew through the various multihull events on the
team’s racing programme in the coming months.
