Artemis Racing win RC44 World Championships
& wrap up at ACWS - San Diego
The lead story of the day was in Lanzarote (ESP) where Artemis Racing, with
Chairman Torbjorn Tornqvist at the helm, won the World Championships and
took 2^nd place on the RC44 Championship Tour for the session.
Meanwhile first event of the 34^th America’s Cup wrapped up this afternoon
in San Diego, it started off with the Speed Trials followed by the Fleet
Racing Championships. With boat speeds upwards of 20 knots it made for
exciting racing for the crowds lining the piers and on top of the USS
Midway.

ORACLE Racing Spithill were in form again today following on from winning
the Match Racing Championships yesterday, to take second place in the Speed
Trials and win the Fleet Racing Championships.
After a solid start and leading at one stage of the race, a wrap in the jib
at the leeward mark saw the Swedish team’s chances of a win evaporate.
Having had to sail to the back of the fleet to clear the wrap around the
forestay, Artemis Racing then fought their way back up the fleet to overtake
China Team to finish in 6^th.
From here the team will return to Valencia where training continues
alongside the design team who are working on the AC72 under the direction of
Principal Designer Juan Kouyoumidjian.

“It’s great to finish the RC44 season like this, we had a good regatta, it
was tight racing and an exciting event. We had consistent teamwork. I’m
really happy with the team.”

“Hats off to Torbjorn and the team for wining the RC44 World Championships.
Here in San Diego on the AC45, we let ourselves down. We battled for
consistency onboard and although we showed moments of solid sailing, we
didn't manage to pull together complete races. We have to continue as a
sailing team to evaluate ourselves critically and sail to the standard that
we are capable of."
