Artemis Racing - 3rd In Match Racing
Having finished up the fleet racing at the top of the leaderboard on
Thursday, Artemis Racing had a ‘bye’ for yesterday’s racing but was back out
on the race course this afternoon to line up against Team Korea’s - White
Tiger Challenge. The first team to win two races would progress to the
finals to race against Emirates Team New Zealand.
Credit goes to Skipper Chris Draper (GBR) and his crew onboard Team Korea
who sailed tenaciously to take first one win, then another off the Swedish
team.
In gusty conditions, reaching speeds over 40km/h, Team Korea and Artemis
Racing sailed two of the closest match races to date in the AC45s.
In Race 1, Artemis Racing led the entire race yet on the penultimate leg
Team Korea called the shift off the shore to win by 32 seconds. In Race 2,
Artemis incurred a penalty for early entry into the starting box but cleared
the penalty swiftly and soon took control of the race with a clean gybe set
at the first mark to accelerate past Team Korea. The boats split on the
upwind leg but it was Team Korea who were just ahead at Mark 4 and went on
to win from there.
In the race for third and fourth positions, Artemis Racing lined up against
ORACLE Racing Coutts. Skipper Terry Hutchinson and the crew were back in
form, leading the entire race to win by a clear margin taking 3^rd place
overall in the America’s Cup World Series – Plymouth Match Racing.
