Hagara on a roll, podium within striking reach
With strong results in races on Thursday – 2/3/4 and capped with a victory in the final race of the day – Red Bull Extreme Sailing is poised for a strong finish on the final day of sailing off Cowes (Isle of Wight) on Friday. The double Olympic gold medal winners Hagara/Steinacher and their international crew (Howden, Cross) put in a world-class performance on a windswept course with gusts of up to 25 knots. The home team caused a stir in England.

COWES (UK) - The Wave Muscat is leading the standings with 138 points with Luna Rossa (ITA) in second with 128 points. There are only 13 points separating Alingi (3rd place with 117 points) and Red Bull Extreme Sailing (5th place). On Friday, the final day of racing, there will be double points awarded in each race.
Red Bull Skipper Roman Hagara, who sailed confidently at the front of the field in the heavy winds in front of tens of thousands of spectators, said: “We aren’t quite yet there where we want to be. Our goal is always to get on the podium. It’s an ambitious goal and for us everything has to fit perfectly in place for it to happen. But we’ve already gotten a third place overall this year once in Oman. We’re on the right track.“
On Friday the racing starts at 4 p.m. The races can be watched on a live webcast at www.extremesailingseries.com .
With 48 professional sailors taking part the field will be the largest ever in the five-year history of the racing series. Among the athletes are 30 Olympic participants and 82 world championship titles. Beyond that they set or broken 57 world records. There are also two America’s Cup-winning syndicates taking part as well – Alinghi and Emirates Team New Zealand. Artemis Team of Sweden will be taking part in the 2013 America’s Cup and has taken over the role as the favorite in the Extreme Sailing Series.
