Extreme Sailing Series - Qingdao_
Well, our 2011 Extreme Sailing Series campaign restarted today
in the Chinese city of Qingdao. This was the venue of the 2008 Olympic sailing events. It is a pretty cool place to sail actually. Our racing today took place very close to the breakwater. As if it wasn't close enough, the last three days of racing will be even closer. Right inside the breakwater and practically in the marina! That will be crazy.

Our crew for this event has two changes from the first event in Oman. Santiago Lange has taken over the helming from Terry Hutchinson. Rodney Ardern is trimming the index for this regatta. We only had two short days of practice as the organisers have a pretty strict limit on how much practice the teams can do. Pretty cool actually. We all went to bed last night thinking, “Hmmmm....not completely sure we are ready for this”.

But as it turned out our day was good. We had 6 races. Our results were: 3,2,3,6,3,8. That score line puts us in second place overall, 2 points behind the leader Emirates Team New Zealand. We are fully aware that with so many races (more than 30 races in every event), the key is consistency. Avoiding the really bad races. The first event was won with an average race position of 4th.

So, all in all it was a very good day for the Artemis Racing team. With 50% of our crew being changed from Oman, limited practice time together, it still felt like we connected really well. No matter what happens we are having fun racing these exciting boats in this exciting series.

Time for us all to get some sleep. There might be 30 more races to go!
