Organised for the first time in 1999 by the
Société Nautique de Saint Tropez, thanks to the support of the Town, the
Port and a host of local associations, Les Voiles de Saint Tropez will
be running their 13*^*th* *meeting this year.*
The 2011 edition will of course be marked by the evocation of La
Nioulargue, to enable organisers the chance to confirm their attachment
to the original spirit of the event: fair play, marine sense and a taste
for all things festive. This evocation will also highlight the already
confirmed appearance of the very loyal Ikra, a 12m JI, which will
compete in the first race against the American Swan, Pride. The original
race between these two protagonists, which actually gave rise to La
Nioulargue, was organised by Patrice de Colmont back in 1981 under the
name of ?Club 55 Cup?, the stake being lunch at Club 55 for the winner.
*On the water: Highlights and novel features*
Once again, the emphasis will be placed on the safety of the race zone,
for both participants and spectators, and this is the case in all the
race phases, namely,
*at the start*, through an exclusion zone (order of the
prefect) for those boats not involved in the procedure,
*in open waters*, by recalling the basic navigation rules:
common sense, vigilance and anticipation,
*at the marks*, as regards the organisation, by ensuring
that all the competitors round the marks in the same
direction, and for spectators by leaving enough room for the
race boats to perform their man?uvres,
and finally *on the finish line*, here again thanks to an
exclusion zone where it is forbidden to sail, as well as the
establishing of a finish line which is split in two, with
one side for modern boats and the other for traditional yachts.
For the first time this year, a "centenarian?s race" will be organised
during Les Voiles. It is set to involve between 15 and 20 boats and will
be contested on Thursday, during the Challenge Day.
Reminder: a donation to the SNSM (French equivalent of the RNLI), in the
guise of an entry fee for the traditional yachts. This "custom",
introduced by Patrice de Colmont, consists of solely making the modern
yachts pay the traditional entry fees, while the traditional boats are
called upon to make a donation at their discretion, for the benefit of
the SNSM.
*On shore: a magical atmosphere in the Village and around the port*
The outdoor Grand Village system organised around the new look bar and
its terrace shaded by parasols, has been revamped with a few tweaks to
the layout, most notable of which are the partners? area and some small
3m by 5m modules next to the official Voiles Kappa clothing stand. This
space, specially fitted out for the duration of Les Voiles, is open
everyday free of charge to participants and the public, from Saturday 23
September to Sunday 2 October, from 0900 to 1930 hours.
As regards entertainment, there is already a host of things on the
agenda including the famous Sardinade or fish fry (Tuesday evening), a
bowling competition (Wednesday evening) and the crew procession
(Thursday evening), with a number of new features and surprises
concocted by the Société Nautique de Saint Tropez, in partnership with
?l'Esprit Village à Saint Tropez? under the leadership of Serge Malapelle.

*ROLEX HAS CONFIRMED ITS INVOLVEMENT ALONGSIDE THE ORGANISERS*
A loyal partner to Les Voiles, Rolex has confirmed its involvement with
the organisers by running the Rolex Trophy, designed to reward the
winner of the category of traditional boats measuring in excess of 16
metres, a prize awarded last year to the 12m JI Ikra!
*ROBE DI KAPPA, **OFFICIAL CLOTHING SUPPLIER TO LES VOILES DE SAINT TROPEZ*
Kappa is making its entrance into the partners? club 2011 as official
clothing supplier to Les Voiles. Especially for the occasion, the brand
will have a substantial range on offer and has just launched a dedicated
website, _www.lesvoilesdesainttropez-thecollection.com
