THE NORMANDY IRC TROPHY ENJOYS ITS SECOND YEAR
Launched in the spring of 2011 by 4 clubs (CVD Dieppe – SNPH / SRH Le Havre – DYC Deauville) and Sirius Evénements, with UNCL backing, the NORMANDY IRC Trophy has enabled the creation of a Normandy-based championship, which is dedicated to this class measurement.
It is an initiative adopted to develop the existing cruiser events and provide racers, who so wish, with the prospect of an IRC-rated championship, in addition to the other circuits and events already present in France’s Baie de Seine area. This is achieved through the choice of a restricted number of events (4 in 2011, 5 in 2012), which are recognised for the sporting quality of the organisation as well as the reception of the racers.
Nearly 60 boats were rated in 2011, which is a more than encouraging start.
The Normandy IRC Trophy 2012 will comprise 5 events:
- The Banana’s Cup in Dieppe from 28 to 30 April
- The Grand Prix des Docks Vauban in Le Havre on 12 and 13 May
- The Normandy Sailing Week in Le Havre from 8 to 10 June
- The Trans-Normandie CCI in Ouistreham on 23 and 24 June
- The Top Marine in Deauville on 15 and 16 September
This year the Trans-Normandie CCI, organised by the SRCO in Ouistreham, is a welcome addition to the Normandy IRC Trophy: a 100-mile long race along Calvados’ coastline, it proved extremely successful in its first edition with no fewer than 34 entries.
The standing will be worked out on the basis of the top 3 results, according to the rules available on the www.uncl.com website for the 4 IRC classes, and it takes up the general ruling for the UNCL’s Trophée Manche, which provides technical support for this project and will serve to establish the standing.
Furthermore, the NORMANDY IRC Trophy has integrated the new organisation for the UNCL’s Trophée Manche IRC. What this means is that the Trophée Manche IRC comprises 6 index events, now added to which are the points scored in the NORMANDY IRC Trophy (the latter being double-point scoring and hence the equivalent of an 8-event Trophée Manche). The top 4 results out of the 8 will be retained for the championship standing.
