FRIENDS REVIVE PAST SAILING EXPERIENCES ON GERMAN OFFSHORE TRAINING YACHT
HASPA HAMBURG, JV 52 Custom Judel Vrolijk design
Owned by: Hamburgischer Verein Seefahrt e. V,
Skipper: Dr. Christoph Morgen (GER)
Yacht Club: Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (NRV)
This will be the first time Haspa Hamburg has competed in the RORC Caribbean
600. This non-profit organisation operates two offshore racing yachts whose
aim is to train young people in offshore sailing and racing.
The group of old sailing friends who have previously competed together in
many offshore races like: Rolex Fastnet Race, Gotland-Runt-Races,
Transatlantic-Races (Hong Kong Challenge from Cape Town to Salvador de
Bahia; Daimler Chrysler North Atlantic Challenge from Newport to Hamburg)
and other races, indexly in the late 90`s and early 2,000 on board yachts of
the Hamburgischer Verein Seefahrt; have now got together again to compete in
the Caribbean 600. After spending the last couple of years building careers
and families, the race will revive their former sailing experiences.
Appeal of the race for the crew: ³Offshore racing in warm waters, with good
winds and high waves. We look forward to a challenging blast reach on the
second night of the race and we look forward to the onshore events prior to
the start and after the finish! Plus, lots of offshore sailing fun,
especially blast reaching in dark nights and big seas,² Dr. Christoph Morgen
