One of the great things about sport, and sailing especially, is that it brings people together from all over the world. As previously mentioned, 35 members of the Manhattan Sailing Club got an opportunity to fly over to Monaco in February to race in the annual Primo Cup. As a result of this effort, our club was honored to receive a letter from H.S.H. Prince Albert. You can read this letter along with an article which appeared in The Riviera Times at http://myc.org/Racing/primo%20cup/report_2007.htm

A few weeks ago, Mayor Bloomberg quoted a historical legend about how Staten Island became part of New York State rather than New Jersey. Several intrepid reporters looked into the legend and came back with varying opinions. Well, we all recognize that uncertainty exists. So to help put an end to the uncertainty, we will stage an annual "Staten Island Decision Race." This year, it will be on Saturday June 2. All sailboats in the harbor are invited to enter and declare whether they are racing for New York or New Jersey. The race will be sailed. The winning boat wins Staten Island for their state for one year. This will clear up any uncertainty. Full details are at www.myc.org/Racing/Special%20Races/staten_island.htm. Currently, 4 boats have entered, 3 for New York and 1 for New Jersey.
