It is the unofficial beginning of Summer. To us, this means we are finally freed of the inside and can begin venturing outside to the warmth and beauty of nature. Sailing is a big part of this. Humans have been sailing boats for thousands of years. If you are not a sailor today, it is likely that somewhere in your past, you had sailing ancestors. How can you tell? Walk to the waterfront and see if the water beckons you. Go to the Ritz-Carlton Rise Bar Terrace in Battery Park City and look out over the harbor. Do you see the graceful sailboats and yearn to be onboard? Pass by Dennis Conner's North Cove in Battery Park City. Look at the glamorous yachts, the 12 Meter and Dennis' Formula 1 race boats. Watch the people, just like you and me, as they board the Manhattan Sailing School boats to begin their new life long adventure into the world of sailing. Cast off the cares and worries which have held you down throughout the winter. Now is Spring and with it, new beginnings. But your new journey can only begin when you take the first step. The Moët & Chandon Christening Ceremony of 12 Meter "America II" (US-46) will be held at North Cove on Thursday, May 31 at 5 p.m. Everyone is invited. Just show up for the festivities which will include signal flags, a cannon and (if all goes well), sabering a bottle of champagne over the bow.
