This Week in Sailing - November 17, 2007
******************
When the first chill comes in the air, like it arrived in New York City this weekend, people with sea in their veins and sailing on their minds turn their thoughts towards the Caribbean. And they begin to dream about the famous "De Caribbean Regatta."
Since the first historic regatta in 2001, New York City sailors have been escaping the cold grip of winter for one glorious week of sailing, sunshine and social enjoyment.
This will be the 8th regatta and for the first time, we will be going to the islands of St. Maarten and St. Barths.
Maybe in the past you have thought about joining De Regatta or maybe this is the first time you have heard about the opportunity. Whatever the case, I wish to give you this clear message, "Don't wait any longer. You never know. Life is short. Make it sweet." Or as our Moët & Chandon sponsor would say, "Be Fabulous!"
I encourage you to begin with the website and De Caribbean Regatta page which is at http://myc.org/Caribbean/st%20barths/St%20Maarten%20St%20Barths%202008.htm
If you have time, click on the link to "Pictures & Reports from Past Regattas." You will see the smiles on the faces, the boats sailing from island to island, the warmth, the sunshine and the spray from the ocean.
This year, we have an incredible group of skippers interested in leading their teams on the vacation of a lifetime. Four of the 15 boats are already "Sold Out" - the earliest this has happened. Other boats are close to being filled as well. Maybe this is an indication of what is to come.
So cast off the trappings of your hum-drum existence. Take to the sea! Join us for a glorious week of sailing, sunshine, sand, snorkeling and socializing as we explore and discover the beautiful Caribbean islands of St. Maarten & St. Barths.
There will be a Caribbean Pump Up Party on Wednesday, November 28 at the Floating Classroom at North Cove from 6 to 8 p.m. Come down, listen to some Caribbean music and hear more about this great sailing vacation.

Volunteers are needed to help build and operate the Holiday Train Garden. This will be the second year of this incredible project. A large model train display is constructed on the sailing club's floating clubhouse which will be docked at North Cove. Then kids and their parents are invited onboard for a little Holiday magic. The grand opening of this year's Train Garden will be Thursday, December 13. After this, the Train Garden will be open on Thursday & Friday evenings as well as Saturday and Sunday afternoons. If you have an interest in model trains and would be willing to volunteer your time or have a business that would like to be a sponsor, please send an email to mike@sailmanhattan.com. This Train Garden makes kids smiles and gives them wonderful memories. It's magic. You should be involved.
