Hi Dr.Krumnacker,
Sail-World.USA .... Latest US and International sailing news
If school has not let out for the summer, you and your kids are certainly counting down the days before there is a dramatic shift in the daily routine. As summer approaches, recall those magical sailing experiences that you had as a child or may have had as and adult.
I vaguely remember my family and me watching a regatta from the race committee boat when I was four. I had no idea what I was watching, but my parents saw hundreds of sailors of all ages having fun on the water. They decided to move to that community because it seemed like a great place to raise kids.
I remember the first time I went for a sail on a big boat and tested my trust in the keel by scooting closer and closer to the leeward rail. Eventually, I was convinced that the boat would not capsize.
I can remember wishing for my own sailboat and getting it without begging my parents for it. (At least I don't remember begging for it).
I can remember towing a string of Sunfish and Blue Jays to a 'distant' yacht club for a weekend regatta where we camped out and survived despite our new found freedom.
I remember the first time, and every time, that I have crossed the bay during a moonlight sail.
I recollect going off to college to study, yet somehow spending my afternoons and weekends sailing.
I will always remember hearing a junior say, 'I'm hooked on sailing,' after we campaigned a boat together for a season.
All of us have our special sailing memories. This summer, do what you can to spread some of your own fairy dust. Enable our youth to get out on the water. Take them for a sail. Invite them on a cruise. Offer to trailer or car top an extra boat to a regatta. While you may help them to start their own list of special sailing moments, but the bonus may be that your personal list will grow.

Fisher's View: Sabre Rattling
Just about this point in every America's Cup that I have attended, the sabre rattling begins before the actual contest to determine the winner of the trophy. It doesn't score points towards the series, but has often done much to cloud the direction of one or other of the contestants and this time it is beginning all over again....

Luna Rossa warm up Alinghi - markchisnell.blogspot.com
As promised - Alinghi and Luna Rossa raced on Friday afternoon. The format was running starts and then racing until a clear leader emerged (which wouldn't be such a bad idea for the main event, and certainly a hell of a lot less painful than watching one boat trail helplessly behind another for 90 minutes)....

Simon Daubney on Alinghi: SailJuice.com
Alinghi's crew work hasn't looked all that slick in their informal races against Luna Rossa this past couple of days. By their own admission, the Defenders have not spent as much time as the challengers on race training, preferring instead to focus on testing and development in pursuit of a small speed edge, in the belief that boatspeed will prevail in the America's Cup....

Three days adrift - could it happen to you?
It's night, there's a high wind blowing off the land. You are on the beach, your boat is in the anchorage, but one of the boats far from shore. Beyond the anchorage, there is nothing but hundreds of miles of ocean. On the way to the yacht in your dinghy the outboard engine fails. You try to row, but the wind is too strong, and keeps blowing you sideways out to sea. You call out, but no one hears you....
