PRESS RELEASE of 09/23/2008
A WIND OF FREEDOM AT PORTE DE VERSAILLES
The Salon Nautique de Paris is to be known from now on as “Nautic”.
A new name calls for a new visual and a new logo, ones expressing a profound renewal. Evidence of a strong wish to open the show up to all kinds of showgoers, whether or not they enjoy water-based recreational activities on a regular basis, the new name is accompanied by a brand new graphic charter that reflects the dynamism of an entire industry. See you from 5 - 14 December at the Porte de Versailles in Paris to assess the effects.

Profound changes are underway in the world of boating: over the years the preservation of the oceans and rivers has become a major and legitimate concern; little by little, aided by the digital revolution, sources of information for the yachting fraternity have become multiform. Because the sea is a world which still escapes the formatting of a large portion of our habits, requests for places to meet, talk and trade have grown more and more pressing.
Nautic is looking to tackle these social changes head on.
It is well known: “he who rests on his floats risks seeing the bows of change pass him by”. To put it simply, Nautic is preparing a show for 2008 that will take your breath away!
A DAZZLING NEW FEATURE
The show is broadcasting its own TV channel, Canal Nautic. Close to 40 screens, spread out over more than 160,000 m² of exhibition space with four giant screens will broadcast the daily programmes of events, broadcasts, and products on site, as well as ever spectacular subjects from the maritime world.
The TV channel will also broadcast the best NauticOfilm pictures—the first digital film competition for amateurs, with exceptional prizes for the winners.
PRESERVATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT
The environment is a major issue today for decades to come. Applying environmentally-friendly principles, Nautic has chosen to reduce its consumption of paper by 50 tons. The elimination of the show catalogue, the installation of interactive terminals, and direct communication with the public are just some of the ways of putting the aims of good ecological practice into action, while considerably improving the flow of information to visitors as well.
In a similar vein, a prize is going to be launched awarding the best initiative in regional sustainable development. Separate prizes will be awarded to individual actions and group projects.
WELCOME ABOARD
You can never be better informed than by those who practice the activity daily. For 2008, Nautic will be offering a new information area in the heart of the show where expert advisers will be able to inform and direct visitors according to what it is they wish to find out: from how to enrol in a sailing school to how to manage waste better, from financing a new acquisition to setting off on a sailing trip this winter. Run by real “Nautic coaches”, this universal portal promises an answer to every question.
NAUTIC CAFÉ
It's well known that sailors always need to be able to gather together round a table to share a glass, talk, relate their latest adventures or unveil their future projects. Located very near the Press Room and Nautic Arena, the Nautic Café will be a venue open to trade professionals and journalists, thus ensuring for the period of the show that information circulates freely and in as informal a manner as possible.
NAUTIC ARENA
Giant screen, fashion shows, discussions, press conferences, and screenings…the Nautic Arena will be a focal point for keeping abreast of current maritime events, meeting skippers and maritime personalities. A genuine forum for boating and water sports, the Nautic Arena will also host live radio and television broadcasts.
This year's show at the Porte de Versailles is clearly promising a profound renewal for 2008. But Nautic will continue to depend on what has made its success over the years: boats and new models, with the addition this year of Porte de Versailles Pavilion 4, where the largest motorboats will be on display and more besides: the Literary Prize, the Equipment Showroom, the Inland Waterway Section, the Macif Discovery Area for beginners, the area for trying out wakeboarding and kite-surfing, and the Brasserie de la Mer…. Changing our customary ways of doing things presupposes that we have a solid base to rely on, with close to fifty years of experience.
