The latest daily news from Ellen to Dr Krumnacker Segel.de
* Parlier reported he'd been sailing for 24 hours with NW Force 4-5 winds, at the limit of his spinnaker, and pushing as fast as he could hope for... but this morning he looks like he sailed out of the breeze, and recorded a speed of just 4 knots. His lead has been cut to 81 miles as MichDesj continued his gybe to the east (the direction of the next waypoint used in the calculation) - but the game might be to get south in to the westerly winds first. Sill took an early gybe to the south, which looks good right now.
* Catherine Chabaud (Whirlpool) and Ellen onboard 'Kingfisher' start to converge, just 25 miles apart....and they even have a chat on the satphone at sunset....as does Toma Coville....they are not totally alone out there.
* Crossing between a small bubble forming to the south of the index system and the anticyclone itself looks to be tricky...but the Southern Ocean is not far as the first big depression appears on the screen to the south...the face of things to come.

POSITION AT 0700 for Kingfisher

18942 miles to go!
Wind of 9 - 13 knots from the North.
ELLEN DIRECT at 0730
[with Anne from Dimanche Ouest France - make sure you buy your Sunday paper!]
Its been a good night I think, I'm keen to get the positions. I had a shift to the NW yesterday afternoon that I gybed on, and made a good 45 miles progress to the south. This might not look good on the classement as it doesn't take that in to account since the waypoint is to the East, but its where I want to get to. We'll see I guess! We're now back on port gybe heading ESE, in 10 to 13 knots of wind - hoping to get another shift as I once again approach the centre of the high - watching my barometer like a hawk.
Did more checks on the boat yesterday, looking for structural problems or leaks, which will be harder to solve in the south. All seems fine. Still got the pilot problem to resolve and sort out a few other small things, but we're in pretty good shape.
Had calls from both Catherine and Toma yesterday, which was really nice. Great to talk to them, although Toma seemed a bit stressed as he had no wind, and was really keen to know what I had...spent quite a lot of time trying to send video back as well yesterday, and failed...very annoyed about that! I guess its part of this game we are now in...
IT COULD BE WORSE, you could have Lentilles aux Aiguillettes, and freeze dried Nasi Goreng for food today...asked this morning if she was doing much cooking, Ellen replied "boiling the kettle and the occasional sandwich, thats it!"
GOLD PARTNER OF THE DAY : B&G's Hercules performance instrument system is fitted onboard 'Kingfisher', and fully integrates with a Deckman computer system and a custom Filemaker pro database. Diverse Yacht Systems fitted the system. http://www.bandg.co.uk
