Banque Populaire completes the Orma Podium
Lalou Roucayrol crossed the finish line of this the seventh Route du Rhum at 19:46:00 GMT. Banque Populaire took 14 days 07 hours 01 minute 00 seconds at an average speed in relation to the orthodromy (3 551 nautical miles) of 10.35 knots.
For reference Banque Populaire covered 4 059 nautical miles on the water which is 508 miles more than the direct route (orthodromy = 3 551 nautical miles), or an average speed across the water of 11.83 knots. Lalou Roucayrol thus finishes third in the Orma multihulls with a distance behind the frontrunner, Michel Desjoyeaux of 23 hours 08 minutes.
Meantime, Stève Ravussin has also had some good luck! « They?re here ! » let up Stève, the connexion barely established with his shore crew. The tugboat arrived with Trimaran TechnoMarine at around 0800, local time (1200 GMT) after 3 days at sea.
Last big scare...Stève, half-amused, half-relieved, recounted that when the emergency services arrived on site, he was at the bottom of the hull, busy pumping out water which was coming into the boat. As a result he didn?t here the emergency services arrive. The latter tried to track him down for more than half an hour. Stève?s brothers, worried, decided to send a diver under the trimaran, in order to try to find Stève. That?s when the sailor put his head out of the hatch?s central hull.
Manoeuvres to right the boat have begun. « I want to bring back my boat and get it back in shape as quickly as possible. » stated Stève this morning. Making the most of the clement weather conditions and a relatively calm sea (waves of around 1.5 metres), he estimated the time necessary to right and prepare the boat for towing at around 12 hours arriving in Pointe-à-Pitre Thursday or Friday.
