Kingfisher plc is title sponsor to Ellen MacArthur's racing projects and is one of Europe's leading retailers operating in the international home improvement market. http://www.kingfisher.com

IN BRIEF:
* 13 DAYS SINCE KINGFISHER2 DISMASTED ON HER JV RECORD ATTEMPT, Ellen and the crew arrived safely at 1055 GMT (1855 local time) in Fremantle, Australia. Under tow for the last three hours of the trip, KINGFISHER2's bows turned round the breakwater into Fremantle harbour as the sun set...drawing to a close the final chapter on their Jules Verne.
* TEAM KINGFISHER HAVE NO IMMEDIATE PLANS FOR ANOTHER CREWED JULES VERNE ATTEMPT...but the experience has been an exciting one, and there is certainly an idea to have another go at this fantastic record in a few years time.
* KINGFISHER PLC AND ELLEN EXPECT TO ANNOUNCE NEW PROGRAMME for 2003/2004 BY THE END OF MARCH
* ELLEN'S ORIGINAL PROGRAMME FOR 2005/6 ANNOUNCED IN LONDON IN JANUARY 2002 reindexs exactly as communicated, including the plan to enter the ORMA 60 trimaran racing circuit during 2005, with the key objective of the 2006 Route du Rhum race.

MORE ON KINGFISHER2's ARRIVAL IN FREMANTLE
* SAILING WITH A SOPHISTICATED, Do-it-Yourself JURY RIG, the crew of KINGFISHER2 have managed to attain some impressive average speeds on their way to Australia, including some peaks of 20 knots!
* ELLEN ON THE EXPERIENCE : "DESPITE THE OBVIOUS PROBLEM, THIS HAS BEEN A GREAT EXPERIENCE, and I'd like to thank my sponsors, Kingfisher, B&Q and Castorama, for their support and commitment during this very tough time - I was extremely proud to be sailing under their colours. But as usual I have learnt a great deal - about myself, about the guys in the team who have been fantastic even during the hardest moments, and as ever about the sea and how these giant boats interact with them. We have no regrets, we had a pretty good go at this record, but of course the disappointment that we didn't succeed is still there...this time..."
* STEPHEN ROBERTSON, MANAGING DIRECTOR, KINGFISHER CHALLENGES, said: "I'd like to congratulate Ellen and the crew on the valiant effort they've made on Kingfisher's behalf. Naturally, we share their disappointment at having to abandon the race but we're relieved that they're back on land safe and sound. We're now looking forward to beginning work with Ellen on the next project."
* ELLEN ON DAMAGE TO THE CAT : "IT IS SAD TO SEE KINGFISHER2 INJURED IN THIS WAY, but when you push to the limits in a record attempt such as the Jules Verne, I guess you have to accept that, despite excellent preparation, and the best team I could imagine, it doesn't always go your way. We are in good company with the other 8 failed attempts on this record..."
* AUSTRALIAN CREW MEMBERS ANDREW HENDERSON (HENDO) & ANTHONY MERRINGTON (YOUNGSTER) will not have far to travel to reach their homes in Melbourne and Sydney, whilst the reindexder of the crew will return to their families in Europe and Canada within a few days...
* KINGFISHER2 WILL BE GIVEN A THOROUGH INSPECTION and a decision about where she will be shipped to will be made in the next few weeks. In the meantime, the 110-foot catamaran will be berthed at Fremantle Saiing Club Marina. "As part of the Team Kingfisher project, this Jules Verne was always planned as a one-shot attempt," commented Project Director Mark Turner, "but of course we hope the huge amount of work that has gone in to optimising the big cat will not be wasted, and that she can continue to be campaigned..."
* ELLEN ON TEAM SAILING v SOLO : "I've done as many ocean miles now with a crew as I have alone - they have all been very rewarding. I love both, for different reasons, although being at sea is the index and enduring factor...Over the coming years I'm looking forward to competing in both disciplines."
