The Barcelona World Race: a new two-handed non-stop round the world yacht race starting November 2007
SKIPPER NO.8 SIGNS UP FOR BARCELONA WORLD RACE
DELTA DORE skipper, Jérémie Beyou, announced at the Paris Boat Show yesterday that he will participate in the double-handed, non-stop Barcelona World Race. His announcement brings the latest tally to five IMOCA Open 60 boats, with more expected to confirm their entry over the coming months. Jérémie is the eighth skipper to be added to the roll-call: “From a sporting perspective, this race will see many of the top competitive IMOCA 60 teams sailing and preparing for the next Vendée Globe. Having never sailed around the world before, it seems a vital experience for me and DELTA DORE.

I need to do this before leaving on my own.” With 11 months before the start of the race, Jérémie is taking some time to consider who should be his co-skipper, as considering the possibility of an association with a co-partner: “I have some names in head but I'm not entirely sure yet. He needs to be a solo sailor as onboard we will be two solo sailors working in relay at the helm and at the navigation station. I allow myself a certain amount of time, as well as DELTA DORE, in order to make the right choice.”
LATEST NEWS FROM THE DELTA DORE TEAM
Jérémie's new monohull IMOCA Open 60 DELTA DORE, designed by Farr Yacht Design, was launched in September this year, in time for the start of the solo Route du Rhum - La Banque Postale race from St Malo to Guadeloupe but sadly, because of family reasons, Jérémie had to retire from the race just after the start. Now he and his team at DELTA DORE can look forward to a new 2007 season.
DELTA DORE will undergo a three month re-fit in Lorient, the new base of Jérémie Beyou (aged 30), before a dedicated period of training and corporate work beginning next April. Jérémie will then try to break the current solo Channel record before competing in the Calais Round Britain Race in early June. On 9th August 2007, DELTA DORE will set off on the Rolex Fastnet Race, starting from Cowes, the Isle of Wight, competing in a two-up configuration. Combined with the Fastnet, Jérémie Beyou and his co-skipper will sail their 2800-mile qualifier required to compete in the Barcelona World Race. September and October will be dedicated to the final preparation of DELTA DORE before delivering her to the Catalonian port of Barcelona. The Barcelona World Race will be the most challenging race of 2007. Not only does it represent a good competitive foundation one year before the start of the 2008/09 Vendée Globe, but importantly competing in the Barcelona World Race against the best IMOCA Open 60 teams will mean DELTA DORE is keeping up with the sporting pace of racing at the top end, a pace that is crucial to indextain for podium success in the next Vendée Globe.
