Barcelona World Race 2007 www.barcelonaworldrace.com - Übersicht Thursday 13th December 2007 ESTRELLA DAMM UNDER REPAIR Having arrived in Cape Town last night (2140 GMT), Estrella Damm skippers Guillermo Altadill and co-skipper Jonathan McKee were welcomed back on dry land after 32 days at sea by their shore crew, before getting onboard to quickly begin the preliminary work of repairing the rudder system and sorting the other work that the team will also try to fix during this pit-stop. The have team removed the two rudder cassettes off the boat so they can be worked on independently. This morning the skippers and the shore team met again to discuss the time-line involved of making the repairs and getting back into the race, the team will continue to assess this time-line and as soon as feasible make a decision as to whether to continue in the Barcelona World Race or not. Every minute that passes sees the reindexder of the fleet sail further and further into the distance, as does the possibility of Estrella Damm reaching the podium which is one of their index objectives. During an afternoon press conference Guillermo Altadill explained that both sailors are keen to get back into the race. "Tonight, both Jonathan and I have slept very little, not more than a couple of hours. We are still in the rhythm of racing non-stop for 32 days. A hot shower, the good feeling of being safe and with our shore team working with us to fix the mechanical problems on board, Jonathan and I have begun to properly focus on making our next decision." "After being repaired last night and this morning, the rudders should arrive soon. Once here, we'll mount them and then assess the situation again. We want to be certain that the repair is effective, safe and reliable, because there are many miles between the Southern Ocean and the Pacific and to Cape Horn." Jordi Blanc, spokesman for Estrella Damm, added: "Guillermo and Jonathan are in good spirits. They are optimists but also realists. The technical team has made great effort to repair both rudders."
