Fairly quiet conditions aboard Temenos II
On port tack, Temenos II is benefiting from a front and its NW'ly winds, to slip
along eastwards. Since yesterday conditions have greatly improved aboard the
monohull, and even though there is less breeze than forecast on the grib files,
they are still making fast headway under large gennaker in thick fog as
Dominique related to us at the latter part of today, Tuesday UTC. In the battle
for 3rd place, it was the turn of Temenos II to snatch back the advantage over
Mutua Madrilena, and even though the 130 miles separating the two boats
constitutes a substantial lead, Michèle and Dominique know that they are under
threat from a comeback by the Spanish duo.

“We can’t see any further than 200 metres. The wind is not in excess of 20
knots, which is less than the models forecast, so in the end the airflow has
been relatively light. Mutua Madrilena should escape these conditions before us,
which would enable them to make up some more ground on us.
Conditions are calm and manageable; the seas have finally become more organised.
They’re still a little messy, but there aren’t any big waves now. The most
annoying thing is the lack of visibility. You can’t see the horizon and at the
helm you soon end up sailing little zigzags without the necessary visual
references. The automatic pilot works better than us in these conditions so it's
back on duty again. This has enabled us to recuperate as we haven't left the
helm since leaving New Zealand.
We’re expecting this quiet scenario to last for at least the next 24 hours; the
wind likely to fill in a little tomorrow, before we drop back into calm
conditions after the passage of the front. Next on the agenda we're awaiting a
fine low, in about 1000 miles time.”
As they await this austral low, which is set to catch up with the monohull
fairly soon, Michèle and Dominique will still be able to make the most of the
mild conditions over the next two days to rest and ready themselves for the next
strong winds.
