09.06.2014 Clipper Race Gets Underway All 3 Major Sailing Events on East Coast Visit North Cove this Spring It has been a record-breaking start to the season at Dennis Conner's North Cove. The Clipper Round-the-World Race started from the marina yesterday. Last week, the New York to Barcelona Race started from North Cove. And the week before that, the Atlantic Cup visited the marina. These were the 3 most important sailing events on the East Coast this spring and all 3 of them have visited North Cove. That sets the record for excitement at any marina! Dennis Conner, America's Greatest Sailor, is the Patron of North Cove which helps bring these incredible events to New York City. And on top of all of this excitement, the great Italian sailor Giovanni Soldini was also at North Cove doing sponsor sails with Maserati. Now that the sailing races have departed, the mega yachts will begin arriving as we build up to the July 4th weekend. The Clipper Round the World Race is where average people can buy a spot to fulfill their dreams of ocean racing. The organization is spearheaded by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and William Ward, both of whom were at North Cove. Clipper is a very successful organization with 12 new 70 foot race boats. Sir Keith Mills was joined by the Deputy Mayor of Barcelona as he counted down the starting sequence. Then the Veteran Corps of Artillery fired the cannon. What an incredible scene! There will be more this summer! But if nothing else were to occur, North Cove has already succeeded in its mission to be a great waterfront stage.
