Video Advisory - Bronenosec the class act in brisk Bermuda
The RC44 Bermuda Cup, the opening event of the 10th anniversary RC44 Championship Tour, set sail today in the best imaginable conditions – brilliant sunshine, flat water and a wind that started at 20 knots and slowly built through the day.
As usual the regatta started with a day of match racing, forming part of a series that rolls across five regattas over the season.
In the big conditions, crew work was at a premium and it was the 2015 defending champion, Vladimir Liubomirov's Bronenosec Sailing Team that claimed five of the six races sailed. Sadly for the Russians, they incurred a costly two-point penalty following a collision in the pre-start of their first race. They went on to win that race and their next four matches, only defeated by Artemis Racing in the final flight after they suffered a technical issue.
Thanks to Bronenosec's two point penalty, the boat which came out on top today was Chris Bake's Team Aqua but she only prevailed after a complex tie between her, Artemis Racing and Team Nika was broken.
Racing continues with four days of fleet racing. Follow the racing via the live blog at www.rc44.com.

About the RC44
Five-time America's Cup winner Coutts conceived the design of the light-displacement, high-performance one-design RC44 with naval architect Andrej Justin in 2005. It was created for top level racing in international regattas under strictly controlled Class Rules. The concept and the design features of the RC44 are dedicated to the amateur helmsmen racing in fleet racing sailing events.
The Class is unique in that the crew is made up of 50% amateur and 50% professionals, with an amateur driver required for fleet racing.
Since its 2007 debut, the RC44 Class has held regattas in Europe, USA and the Middle East.
The racing format is a combination of both Match Racing and Fleet Racing.
The Class partners are: Pelle P and Preciflex
