Saturday was the drawing for boats and preparation for competition.
Sunday morning was final modification for the
pre-race on the Knox course west of Angel Island.
Condition at Knox for the pre-race were full sunshine, moderate winds with a flood current. The race was delayed waiting for the southerly wind to clock around to the normal westerly wind. The course was two upwind and downwind legs with a downwind finish on a short course. The second downwind leg was notable because our course paralleled the St Francis Big Boat series and they came very close. The first two boat to finish will be interesting boats to watch. The meticulous preparation of GER-896, Joachim Bleiful paid off for a win. On the other extreme was FINN-300 or Roni Saksi had to borrow a set of sails at the last minute as his didn't fit, and almost missed the start. He wasn't able to tune the sails or rig but developed outstanding boatspeed for a second. Danielle Dignan on US-74 overstood the first mark, showed excellent boatspeed and finished ahead of Peter Jeal, last year's season champion. Again, these results do not count in the final standings.
