Über den America’s Cup

Der America's Cup ist eine der ältesten Trophäen im internationalen Sport. Er geht zurück auf das Jahr 1851, als die Yacht „America“, nach der die Trophäe benannt wurde, die besten britischen Yachten in einem Rennen rund um die Insel Isle of Wight im Süden Englands geschlagen hat. Die Trophäe, die damals gewonnen wurde, wurde in einer Stiftungsurkunde verewigt und steht seitdem als ein Symbol für außergewöhnlich Erreichtes. Es ist vielleicht die Sporttrophäe, die am schwersten zu gewinnen ist. In der 165-jährigen Geschichte haben erst vier verschiedene Länder den America’s Cup gewonnen.

Der America's Cup wird derzeit vom Golden Gate Yacht Club in San Francisco/USA gehalten. Am 25. September 2013 verteidigte dessen Mannschaft vom ORACLE TEAM USA in einem der größten Comebacks der Sports die Trophäe, die sie 2010 zum ersten Mal gewonnen hatte.
Am 2. Dezember 2014 wurde Bermuda als Heimat und Austragungsort des 35. America’s Cups bestimmt. Das Regattarevier liegt auf dem ikonischen Great Sound, wo die Boote der neuen America’s Cup-Klasse (15 Meter lange Katamarane mit Tragflächen und Flügelsegeln) von allen teilnehmenden Nationen im Mai/Juni 2017 um den America’s Cup segeln werden.

Der America’s Cup ist mit Louis Vuitton geehrt als Titelpartner der Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series, der Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Qualifikationen und dem Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Finale der Herausforderer. Louis Vuitton ist außerdem Präsentationspartner des 35. America’s Cup-Matches, präsentiert von Louis Vuitton.
Der America's Cup ist außerdem stolz, von folgenden weiteren Partnern unterstützt zu werden: BMW, Bremont, ORACLE, der Bermuda Tourismusbehörde und Goslings genauso wie von Appleby, BF&M, Butterfield, Butterfield & Vallis, Moët & Chandon, dem Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, PwC und Sail Racing.

ACEA made a flurry of announcements in December about America's Cup World Series events in Oman, New York and Toulon, France. They have not yet confirmed their announcement of an event in Tokyo in November.

Match racing begins on 26 May 2017 with the round robin "America's Cup Qualifiers" and continues through the America's Cup Match which begins on Saturday 17 June 2017.
